HQ Thoughts: "Let me mention that I had no expectations of liking this (what feels like) 58th edition of TCM but the writers' were definitely onto something with this concept. 

I will be honest and say that I stopped watching these installments after the remake of the original and not really sure if this is a continuation of another but it makes sense either way.

Heather inherited the Sawyer home and decided to take her friends with her to check it out on their way to New Orleans. Trey Songz plays the boyfriend and doesn't die in the typical black person first style which was refreshing but his acting made me wish... ok ok let me stop.

Anyway, things go as usual- everyone gets knocked off in the most archaic ways and the ending is what shocked me the most. I must say that I was actually satisfied with the outcome, which was not what I expected at all.

Having a slow weekend evening? This could get a few jumps and laughs out for you. Good watch."

HQ Thoughts: "Move over Old Boy and Visitor Q.... Strange Circus is a shocking roller coaster of a sick reality in life. Incest. Nothing to hide here folks, the movie starts off so straight forward that I took 3 days to eventually get through it all. Don't get me wrong, this is a visually brilliant film with a story line that is as delightful, as it is disturbing.

Matsuko lives with her mother Sayuri and father Gozo in a well kept mansion. Her father is the principal of the school she attends and his highly respected, her mom- is around to satisfy dad. If you pay close attention, you will understand the undertones of some SERIOUS family issues beginning to arise, this is no joke people.

Everything begins when Matsuko does what I think every child does at one point in their life, and this is catch their parents having sex... ehk. The difference here, Matsuko pays for it in the weirdest, sickest way ever which eventually causes a riff between her and her mother. Ridiculous. 

AND that is the book that best-selling author Taeko is penning out for all to read... hmmmm

I can't stress enough how much of a sadistic surprise this beautiful movie was. Another to go on my best list and another who receives my 10/10 imaginary score. I RECOMMEND! *chants* watch this. watch this. watch this."

HQ Thoughts: "As tribute to the Ju-On brand created by Takashi Shimizu, this 1-hr short is the scarier of 2 stories meant to intertwine and come full circle.

As we all know, all Ju-On's are based on grudges that manages to creep back and get it's revenge. This is the story of the Woman in White, it's based on a young woman named Akane who is baffled by the consistent sightings of a little girl who has on the same gear as she did when she was younger.

Starting out in an unnerving fashion (for me at least), the story is super complex for a short; incorporating several different people in the town by showing their (albeit, very minor) connection with the overall concept and the family involved. 

Akane starts to assess the impact that these visions have on her and realizes that the little girl is a very, very familiar figure from her past, as each member of the family manages to have a connection with everyone in some fashion.

I enjoyed this immensely, honest scares, very dark and creepy. I like the idea, always did. Loved this."

HQ Thoughts: "I'm excited to mention that Haute Tension is EASILY 1 of my favorite films because again, it is 1 of those gems that managed to shock the mess out of me and I was authentically scared for a while after watching this for the 1st time (and every time after). It's definitely a love story with horrific standards and outcomes and who doesn't enjoy a love story???

The film kicks into high gear like 15-20 minutes in and keeps you on your toes the entire time while you are there with Marie and Alexa as they attempt to escape a random ass madman who managed to take out Alexia's entire family in minutes. No wonder the title, which is also referred to as 'Switchblade Romance'.

Marie stops at nothing to protect her college friend until the ultimate twists takes place, sending you on a downward spiral of HOLY SHIT-ness and a clear cut and screwed ending. 

NOT A LET DOWN AT ALL. This film is brilliant. A work of originality. Wish there was a Part Deux in the works, I could totally see this becoming a franchise of a small sort. I love it beyond belief!"

HQ Thoughts: "This film started out simple enough with 2 families out looking for a new home. They are both, one way or another, made aware of a 70 acre farmhouse right on the outskirts of town by the owner, who is also looking to a move of some sort. One family (with their son whose leg is broken) go to the location, beautiful home- amazing space and no one is there to help except some voice boxes apparently telling the story of each room in the house. No real estate agent, nothing. 

The 2nd family arrives (with the daughter) shortly after and debate, leaving the other family with the choice to buy. They decide to leave. After making the initial attempt, they end up crashing into a battered and bruised girl whose tongue was cut out. Bad signs ASAP!

Just like any normal family, person, animal- they grab the girl and make a run for it, only thing is that every time they drive away, before they even get to the highway, they end up back in front of the house. The weird voice box is yapping away and I'm totally freaked by now. Different concept, refreshing. 

Movie seems to over extend itself in the acting department, feels like everyone strained their part but I'm not here to deter you from what can potentially be a good horror night. This had me walking away satisfied. The movie is a mind catcher. I liked it!"

HQ Thoughts: "FYI - THIS IS A RARE NO GORE ALERT!!!

I really wanted to feature this film because it truly does offer another spectrum of what horror can be considered, depending on who you are dealing with. This film doesn't disappoint on a psych-level, pure mind-fuckery that is as original as it is disturbing.

Alexandra is a wife and mother in a typical family that seems happy on the outside but clearly this woman has her own set of issues that are on the verge of eruption in this film. While celebrating her husbands' birthday, she comes up with what she believes is the most thought-provoking gift a man could ever get. 

She sets up a video for hubby, who comes home ready for a surprise party- only to come home to darkness, his TV and the VHS tape. Everything starts off interesting and gets real as things go along. Take note of the drastic change in his demeanor as yours tend to take turns with him.

Let your mind go and get into this film. I'm sure by the end you will be sitting with your mouth hanging open trying to figure out what you just witnessed. Again, no gore but one hell of a psychological horror that I think deserves to make horror film listings."

HQ Thoughts: "Classic. Puts the horror in horrible and Asians know how to do it! WOW

Oh Dae-Su was held captive after being kidnapped one day from a police station. We have no clue why and neither does he but he is kept hostage for the next 15 years, not to mention that he is fed and pretty much kept isolated with only a facade of an apartment and a television.

He learns as time winds down that he has the opportunity to find who has done this to him, because they basically ruined his entire life, including his family. The obviously pissed and bitter captors give this guy 5 days and Oh Dae-Su uses everything that he learned from TV to inflict the most pain as he tries to find his new meaning in life. Pay attention is all I can recommend because the visual is amazing.

Oh yea and Spike Lee is remaking it this year to my greatest disappointment."
