SATURDAY- July 19th, 2014 "Daddy's Little Girl..." Lovely Molly: WHAT JUST HAPPENED HERE???!!!: (Title LINK is English) 2011/UK/R/Horror
"Newlywed Molly moves into her deceased father's house in the countryside, where painful memories soon begin to haunt her." ~ Lovely Molly (2011)
HQ Thoughts:
"This movie is all mental, so don't expect too much of a gory story line. The directors have made it possible for the viewer to creep into the mind frame of a severely damaged woman, apparently by the hands of her now deceased father.
The main question of the film is whether or not her father's ghost has come back to continue wreaking havoc on her or is she clearly a sadistic drug addict reliving her horrible past on her own? Everything in her path crumbles as she witnesses more and more ghostly figures and violent entities.
I love a dark, cerebral film that keeps you guessing and Lovely Molly doesn't fall short with the questions throughout the film and at the end. Are her attacks hallucinations, as it is associated with psychosis and schizophrenia or is her dead tormenter on her back- again?
My only wonder is why she took the house in the first place, this film takes me places I wasn't ready to go and Gretchen Lodge gave a more than impressive performance as a very disturbed Molly, KUDOS!. It's a good watch!"
SUNDAY- December 1st, 2013 'Extreme Gore Revisited!'
Ichi The Killer:Takashi Miike directs, Can You Keep Up???: (Title LINK is in Japanese Sub-Title) 2001/NR/Psychological Horror/Gore/Sadomasochism
"As sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara searches for his missing
boss he comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be
able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed of." ~ Ichi The Killer (2001)
HQ Thoughts: "I have yet to unsee this movie. A MUST watch for any gore fan... This one hell of a directorial... Countless scenes that will make your question your place as a human....... I can keep going. lol
Ichi The Killer' Based on a manga that broke barriers in the genre, "Ichi The Killer: Episode Zero"- this featured film bought the same ideas of madness, psychological deviance and sadism from the cartoon to live person film without missing a beat!!! This gore fest is a must have for any horror fan collection and I'm sure you'd watch it frequently.
Now, the matter at hand. Kakihara; a pain-craving Yakuza underboss that is looking for his run-away Boss. Ichi on the other hand is a sexually repressed (as mentioned above), quirky young man who is out to execute a couple orders of his own under the watch of a few cohorts.
Between the gore scenes, death, rape and countless other atrocities that seem to be a theme within Miike's films, (oh yea, and excessive lactation... ...) "Ichi The Killer" is one hell of a film. Enjoyable if you can stomach through it. I absolutely adore.
SUNDAY- November 10th, 2013 "Anything For Tha Mulah!" American Mary- "Paying Homage To Body Mods": (Title LINK is in English) 2012/Canada/R/Horror
"The story follows medical student, Mary Mason, as she becomes
increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once
admired. The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of
underground surgeries which ends up leaving more marks on her than her
so called 'freakish' clientele."~ American Mary (2012)
HQ Thoughts:
"Finally, some original works that focuses on a topic that is otherwise quietly discussed. Body modifications and the extremism of self-mutilation for pleasure & beauty purposes. What a treat!
Mary Mason is a med student who is in debt and desperate times who turns to some unconventional measures in order to make some extra money. She meets a woman named Beatrice who in turn, introduces her to another woman interested in creating a masterpiece of herself... And it all goes down from there.
Body modification ends up
paying extremely well and after enduring a brutal attack, she decides on some payback. Ultimately Mary is pushed into a world that eventually
costs her more than medical school could have ever.
Some very interesting characters here, loosely written but entertaining for what it's worth. I enjoyed the idea of body modification being used as a premise of this film however, it could have been a lot more informative. Not a bad watch!"
WEDNESDAY- September 4th, 2013 "Umm, So About That Incest..." Strange Circus- Can You Stomach Through It?!: (Title LINK is in English subtitles) 2005/Japan/R/Horror
"The erotic novelist Taeko is writing a morbid story of a family
destroyed by incest, murder and abuse. Her assistant, Yuji, sets on a
mission to uncover the reality of this story, but the reality might be
too much to bear."~ Strange Circus (2005)
HQ Thoughts:
"Move over Old Boy and Visitor Q.... Strange Circus is a shocking roller coaster of a sick reality in life. Incest. Nothing to hide here folks, the movie starts off so straight forward that I took 3 days to eventually get through it all. Don't get me wrong, this is a visually brilliant film with a story line that is as delightful, as it is disturbing.
Matsuko lives with her mother Sayuri and father Gozo in a well kept mansion. Her father is the principal of the school she attends and his highly respected, her mom- is around to satisfy dad. If you pay close attention, you will understand the undertones of some SERIOUS family issues beginning to arise, this is no joke people.
Everything begins when Matsuko does what I think every child does at one point in their life, and this is catch their parents having sex... ehk. The difference here, Matsuko pays for it in the weirdest, sickest way ever which eventually causes a riff between her and her mother. Ridiculous.
AND that is the book that best-selling author Taeko is penning out for all to read... hmmmm
I can't stress enough how much of a sadistic surprise this beautiful movie was. Another to go on my best list and another who receives my 10/10 imaginary score. I RECOMMEND! *chants* watch this. watch this. watch this."
Gothika: The Ultimate Cover-Up!: (Title LINK is English) 2003/US/R/Horror
"Ghost story in which a repressed female psychiatrist wakes up as a
patient in the very asylum where she worked with no memory of why she is
there and what she has done." ~ Gothika (2003)
HQ Thoughts:
"Halle has played everything from a drug addict to CatWoman but in this film, she is a criminal psych who mysteriously wakes up in a cell in her own ward after blacking out one day at home. When she wakes up, she realizes that she is the Numero Uno suspect in the brutal hacking death of her husband, another prominent figure in this small town.
The story is super dark with the likes of Robert Downey Jr. reversing his role and taking her on as his client to further try to find out why she took the hatchet to her husband. Halle gives a believable psychotic trip as she tries to maintain her real sanity while being tormented by a twisted ghost who seems to be trying to tell her something.
Clean, sharp movie with decent twists that are well written. Goes to show you how it's all in who you know. Good watch!"
Megan is MISSING: *Deactivates ALL Chat*!: (Title LINK is English) 2011/US/R/Horror
"Fictional drama based on actual events, about 2 teen-age girls who encounter an internet predator.
Megan and Amy are best friends. They share secrets. They chat with guys
online. And in a few days, they will never be seen again." ~ Megan Is MISSING (2011)
HQ Thoughts:
"TRUST ME the acting is surely meant to be this bad but the message is excellent and horrifying! 2 very young girls, with too much access and freedom, do things that I would kill my child for and end up in BIG TIME trouble.
Hard partying Megan and her innocent (virgin) friend Amy are out and about with friends, parties, movies and constant chatting. This is one of the gazillion 'found footage' films that actually give a pretty decent feel, especially towards the end. The wrap-up of this movie makes up for every second spent watching Megan's obnoxious actions and stories.
What happens to these poor girls is anyone's worse nightmare and the events leading up to it is pretty much self explanatory. No happy endings- just a bunch of guessing and terrible feelings inside.
Anywho, give it a watch. I would even say it could work as a pretty good PSA for that kid who doesn't want to get offline for a moment with family. You're welcome."
Irreversible:Time Awareness, Something SO Precious: (Title LINK is in French Sub-Title) 2002/NR/Horror/Psychological
"Events over the course of one traumatic night in Paris unfold in reverse-chronological order as the beautiful Alex is brutally raped and beaten by a stranger in the underpass..." ~ Irreversible (2002)
HQ Thoughts: This film takes you backwards through a tragic and horrible , yet eventful day. It allows for a thorough introspect of what actually happened, why and what went wrong overall. You wonder and wonder until you hit that 'AHA!' moment which isn't until way later. Irreversible is TRULY a visual masterpiece, making you take in every bit of the movie in order to really appreciate the ending. O yea!
An young woman (named Alex) carries on as usual, entertaining a party with 2 of her friends. What's awaiting, tends to take a turn for the worse when she eventually separates from them. There is so much to take away from the directorial ingeniousness; how to appreciate life, how to make the right decisions, thinking.... And basically destiny. There is a scene in this movie that was very difficult for me to take in but I watched it, in it's entirety and God bless that young lady for her endurance for that. Very interesting indeed.
Again, a perfect example of "Horror" without your typical monsters and goblins! I only watched it once, it is forever ingrained in my memory, the turn of events are just... *sigh*
