SATURDAY- July 19th, 2014 "Daddy's Little Girl..." Lovely Molly: WHAT JUST HAPPENED HERE???!!!: (Title LINK is English) 2011/UK/R/Horror
"Newlywed Molly moves into her deceased father's house in the countryside, where painful memories soon begin to haunt her." ~ Lovely Molly (2011)
HQ Thoughts:
"This movie is all mental, so don't expect too much of a gory story line. The directors have made it possible for the viewer to creep into the mind frame of a severely damaged woman, apparently by the hands of her now deceased father.
The main question of the film is whether or not her father's ghost has come back to continue wreaking havoc on her or is she clearly a sadistic drug addict reliving her horrible past on her own? Everything in her path crumbles as she witnesses more and more ghostly figures and violent entities.
I love a dark, cerebral film that keeps you guessing and Lovely Molly doesn't fall short with the questions throughout the film and at the end. Are her attacks hallucinations, as it is associated with psychosis and schizophrenia or is her dead tormenter on her back- again?
My only wonder is why she took the house in the first place, this film takes me places I wasn't ready to go and Gretchen Lodge gave a more than impressive performance as a very disturbed Molly, KUDOS!. It's a good watch!"
WEDNESDAY- September 4th, 2013 "Umm, So About That Incest..." Strange Circus- Can You Stomach Through It?!: (Title LINK is in English subtitles) 2005/Japan/R/Horror
"The erotic novelist Taeko is writing a morbid story of a family
destroyed by incest, murder and abuse. Her assistant, Yuji, sets on a
mission to uncover the reality of this story, but the reality might be
too much to bear."~ Strange Circus (2005)
HQ Thoughts:
"Move over Old Boy and Visitor Q.... Strange Circus is a shocking roller coaster of a sick reality in life. Incest. Nothing to hide here folks, the movie starts off so straight forward that I took 3 days to eventually get through it all. Don't get me wrong, this is a visually brilliant film with a story line that is as delightful, as it is disturbing.
Matsuko lives with her mother Sayuri and father Gozo in a well kept mansion. Her father is the principal of the school she attends and his highly respected, her mom- is around to satisfy dad. If you pay close attention, you will understand the undertones of some SERIOUS family issues beginning to arise, this is no joke people.
Everything begins when Matsuko does what I think every child does at one point in their life, and this is catch their parents having sex... ehk. The difference here, Matsuko pays for it in the weirdest, sickest way ever which eventually causes a riff between her and her mother. Ridiculous.
AND that is the book that best-selling author Taeko is penning out for all to read... hmmmm
I can't stress enough how much of a sadistic surprise this beautiful movie was. Another to go on my best list and another who receives my 10/10 imaginary score. I RECOMMEND! *chants* watch this. watch this. watch this."
Visitor Q: Dysfunction can't describe or define this family: (Title LINK is Japanese w/ English subtitles) 2001/Japan/R/Horror
"A troubled and perverted family find their lives intruded by a
mysterious stranger who seems to help find a balance in their disturbing
natures. " ~ Visitor Q (2001)
HQ Thoughts:
"Beware, this post may include a lot of expletives with the first of many being- WHAT THE FUCK!?
I knew what Takashi Miike was capable of because I have posted one of his many classics before (see: Ichi The Killer) but WOW I never thought that he would go to the extreme as to find every possible deviant dysfunction that could occur in a family and tie it into this explosive directive. Extreme in the sense of a little necro, drug usage, murder, incest, etc, etc.... It's ACTUALLY considered a very, very dark comedy. (And yes, you will laugh!) I'm certainly impressed by the room for experimentation and freedom of speech and artistry in other parts of the world.
By the looks of the trailer, not much can be shown without rating it XXX so, hats off to Mr. Miike for not giving 2 flying fucks about what he puts on film to entertain. Kudos!!!
