SATURDAY- August 9th, 2014 "I'm Hungry Now..." Omnivores (Omnivoros): Are You Going To Eat That???!!!: (Title LINK is English Subtitles) 2013/Spain/UR/Horror
"MARCOS VELA is a prestigious gastronomic journalist who accepts the
request of an independent publisher to write an article on the recent
emergence of the Clandestine Restaurants..." ~ Omnivores (2013)
HQ Thoughts:
"Eat first before you watch this culinary gore fest of a film. Touching everyone's nerve with the idea of an underground eating ring that enjoys to dine on, well, YOU.
Marcos is an established foodie writer who takes on a special writing project based on clandestine restaurants as mentioned above. What he didn't realize is the unconventional process in which they take to gather their goods. He then meets a beautiful woman who guides him through intense relations and after experiencing a show based on wild eating habits and techniques he is now ready for the next step which leads him to dinner of a weird kind. Everything from that point on is not for the queasy at all.
Without giving too much, understand that this is a very tight knit organization that is almost impossible to escape so, after he indulges in what is the ultimate taboo, he comes up with a plan to fix the problem. Definitely a test of gore tolerance in this one. Very well executed nice ending."
FRIDAY- September 6th, 2013 "Let Me Help You..." The Human Centipede (First Sequence)- Wrong Experiment Gone Right?!: (Title LINK is in English) 2009/Dutch/R/Horror
"A mad scientist kidnaps and mutilates a trio of tourists in order to
reassemble them into a new "pet"-- a human centipede, created by
stitching their mouths to each others' rectums."~ Human Centipede- First Sequence (2009)
HQ Thoughts:
"Time has passed since this film was deemed the first of it's kind to explore such a macabre scientific 'what if '. Now that the Final Sequence is coming upon us, I thought that maybe we could revisit the beginning of a franchise that is sure to make your stomach curdle.
Everyone that I took the time to watch this with (and I've seen it plenty) they all seem to be mad at the fact that this movie is so sick and disgusting. I'm usually shocked because the beauty of this film is that there is little to absolutely NO GORE in this film. Just the idea. Sounds, medical visuals and an outcome of success is all you get and it's enough to make you squirm.
2 girls are unfortunate enough to have their car break down in Dr. Heiter's backyard and are invited in, in effort to help... or so we think. They are led to a makeshift basement where a Japanese man was already being held captive and the horrors begin there.
Dr. Heiter doesn't fall short on the dialogue, where in some cases he creates a sense of disgust while explaining jovially his intentions to create a human centipede attached via gastric systems. WTF???
There are some gems here like "FEEED HIM!" and "Now I Will Make You The Middle Piece" that tend to spearhead some of my inside jokes.... O man you will see what I mean. I adore this original and hear that the 2 set to follow suit (Full Sequence is out already, Final is said to be ready by 2014) are gory and beyond the limits of this. We shall see."
FRIDAY- August 16th, 2013 "Just Family Issues..." Ju-On (White Ghost): Grudge Carried Full Circle?!: (Title LINK is English subtitles) 2009/Japan/R/Horror
"Akane begins seeing visions of a female ghost wearing the same yellow hat and red satchel she wore as a school child." ~ Ju-On: White Ghost (2009)
HQ Thoughts:
"As tribute to the Ju-On brand created by Takashi Shimizu, this 1-hr short is the scarier of 2 stories meant to intertwine and come full circle.
As we all know, all Ju-On's are based on grudges that manages to creep back and get it's revenge. This is the story of the Woman in White, it's based on a young woman named Akane who is baffled by the consistent sightings of a little girl who has on the same gear as she did when she was younger.
Starting out in an unnerving fashion (for me at least), the story is super complex for a short; incorporating several different people in the town by showing their (albeit, very minor) connection with the overall concept and the family involved.
Akane starts to assess the impact that these visions have on her and realizes that the little girl is a very, very familiar figure from her past, as each member of the family manages to have a connection with everyone in some fashion. I enjoyed this immensely, honest scares, very dark and creepy. I like the idea, always did. Loved this."
