TUESDAY- July 29th, 2014 "Her Milkshake Bought Him To The...?!" Haunt: Yay To Creepy Love Stories!!!: (Title LINK is English) 2013/USA/UR/Horror
"An introvert teen befriends his new neighbor, and together the couple
begin to explore the haunted house that his family has just purchased." ~ Haunt (2013)
HQ Thoughts:
"Boy meets girl with some pretty good horrific moments. A bit slow but I
think worth the watch on a late night. Definitely going to get a few
scares out of it!
Evan
is sad because his family moved out of the city into a slow paced
wooded area. The house is said to be haunted, so of course the parents
took it on a good deal.
He
eventually began to roam around the newly purchased premises and finds a girl (amazingly) sitting in the woods. Decisions here makes the film what is because I do believe any person in their 'right' mind would have just left it all alone- yet we will give him a pass for living in the boonies!
I just want to get a few PERSONAL concerns out about
her before I move on. WHY IS SHE SO DAMN RUDE? (you'll see what I mean...)
She gets a LOT comfortable right away and they
both start to look through the house to find a spirit communicator that
works, and the good stuff begins. As hard as I tried to figure out the twist- I will say that this one stumped me until the very end...
This film is basically a
horror/love story due to the character attachment you tend to inadvertently build as the film moves along. I actually enjoyed it for what
it's worth.
I caught myself talking a lot at the screen and the ending left me stumped and mad and Grrr! Let's just say that. I think it's worth a watch. Not a bad film
but could have definitely been better executed."
SUNDAY- November 17th, 2013 "In by sundown. Don't mind if I do..."
Maniac: More Mommy Issues w/ a Great POV!: (Title LINK is English) 2012/France/R/Horror
"As he helps a young artist with her upcoming exhibition, the owner of a
mannequin shop's deadly, suppressed desires come to the surface." ~ Maniac (2012
HQ Thoughts:
"I love remakes that goes further than the previous film attempted. 1980's Maniac original was a gore fest, as it should have been- it was the time when gore was on the come up. The story line was irrelevant to the idea of someones' head getting blown off.
In this rendition, Frank meets Anna and the concept remains the same (he is enamored, starts to flashback about skanky mom and goes off the deep end eventually) but here you get an in depth look from his perspective. No really, it's like looking through his eyes for the majority of the film.
Premise doesn't change, he scalps women as an homage paid to a slutty mother and the inability to love, but this is so much more endearing that you somewhat feel really bad for Frank.
The film wasn't as horrible as some made it out to seem, this film is banned for release in New Zealand. I think it's a great watch, great perspective as mentioned before and needless to say, Mr. Wood did an awesome job here."
THURSDAY- September 12th, 2013 "Class Is In Session!" Wasting Away (aka Aaah! Zombies!!!)- Appreciate The Zombies Perspective!!!: (Title LINK is in English) 2007/USA/R/Horror
"Turning the zombie film on its head, this film is an oddball comedy from
the perspective of the brain munching monsters themselves."~ Wasting Away (2007)
HQ Thoughts:
"As this would be my first comedy horror submission- I will stress how fucking awesome this movie is. I laughed and cringed and did everything else while I enjoyed myself greatly.
This film follows a group of friends who eat some tainted ice cream but are unaware of the transformation they encountered. Slowly but surely they all become maneaters and the hilarious part is that THEY DON'T KNOW!!!
So while they are going around doing what they normally do, the outside world only sees the nasty undead and they can't seem to wrap their heads around it.... PLEASE NOTE: The cinematography in this film is amazing, offering 2 different viewpoints and it works to this films advantage.
This movie covers a little of everything and falls a little short at the end but is eventful, gory and funny all at once. Oh and there is even a cool zombie make-out scene that will me you HOLLER! Must Watch!!!"
SUNDAY- September 1st, 2013 "Holy Cow..." Master of Horror-Cigarette Burns: Trust, It's Still Around...: (Title LINK is in English) 2005/USA/R/Horror
"With a torrid past that haunts him, a movie-theater director is hired to
hunt for the only known print of a film so notorious that its single
screening caused the viewers to become homicidically insane."~ Masters of Horror- Cigarette Burns (2005)
HQ Thoughts: "Classic Carpenter. This film is based on one of his many short stories and luckily was turned into a visually aesthetic horror masterpiece. I absolutely love this. Kirby is a researcher/theater owner who does small programmer jobs for money to help pay back his debts. He gets a lead to a film collector who is looking for a one of a kind film titled "Le Fin Absolue du Monde" which roughly translates to "The Absolute End of the World" where I can't even begin to tell you what is on it and what happens when you watch it but I assure you, Mr. Carpenter didn't fall short with the creepiness.
Considering this is a 55 minute story, the twists and turns takes you down a spiral that makes you feel like you are watching a full length film. Not only that, it's superbly done and the ending is to die for! Did I mention that I absolutely LOVE THIS?!"
TUESDAY- August 27th, 2013 "Look Into My Eyes, If You Dare..." Muoi- The Legend of a Portrait: A Complicated, Deserving Revenge!?: (Title LINK is English subtitles) 2007/Korean/Vietnam/R/Horror
""Muoi" charts the path of a Korean writer who travels to Vietnam in
search of stories for her second novel. There she learns about a mystery
centered around a century-old vengeful spirit." ~ Muoi- The Legend of a Portrait (2007)
HQ Thoughts:
"One thing I can say about this film is that the story line is EXCELLENT! It drew me in as soon as I turned it on and the concept is a bit of a diversion from the countless other Grudge movies that I've seen in the past, this one actually has a well thought out purpose for a successful revenge which I think this film accomplished.
There are many moments of fright but if you are looking for an all out gorefest, not this time. I'm sure by now reading my site- you see that I am extremely interested in cerebral movies... This didn't disappoint just a tad bit slow at moments.
While trying to capture you in the feelings department for Moui (10 in Vietnamese) you realize that she too, is a scorned woman but from a century ago. She was trapped in an unfinished portrait that was in the works by a love interest who just so happened to be married..... Go figure. His wife found out and voila, you have a pretty cool flick.
As with several others; Muoi was included in my horror-thon for my blogging pleasure and made the cut... Hope you enjoy as well!"
SATURDAY- August 10th, 2013 "BUT I Love You..." HIGH Tension: Unconditionally A Gory Love Story!: (Title LINK is English Dubbed) 2005/French/R/Horror
"Two college friends, Marie and Alexa, encounter loads of trouble (and
blood) while on vacation at Alexa's parents' country home when a
mysterious killer invades their quiet getaway." ~ HIGH Tension (2005)
HQ Thoughts: "I'm excited to mention that Haute Tension is EASILY 1 of my favorite films because again, it is 1 of those gems that managed to shock the mess out of me and I was authentically scared for a while after watching this for the 1st time (and every time after). It's definitely a love story with horrific standards and outcomes and who doesn't enjoy a love story???
The film kicks into high gear like 15-20 minutes in and keeps you on your toes the entire time while you are there with Marie and Alexa as they attempt to escape a random ass madman who managed to take out Alexia's entire family in minutes. No wonder the title, which is also referred to as 'Switchblade Romance'.
Marie stops at nothing to protect her college friend until the ultimate twists takes place, sending you on a downward spiral of HOLY SHIT-ness and a clear cut and screwed ending.
NOT A LET DOWN AT ALL. This film is brilliant. A work of originality. Wish there was a Part Deux in the works, I could totally see this becoming a franchise of a small sort. I love it beyond belief!"
FRIDAY- July 26th, 2013 "Monday Ran Away." MAY: Her Compliments Are Deadly!: (Title LINK is English) 2002/US/R/Horror
"Psychological horror about a lonely young woman traumatized by a
difficult childhood, and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect
with the people around her..." ~ MAY (2002)
HQ Thoughts:
"I saw this movie about 10 years ago, watch it here & there when I need that 'cult classic' fix. MAY is one amazing film. Mix between gore, crazy and even a little lesbian action, the girl in question is a social misfit (possibly autistic) whom can't seem to mesh with society. At all. Her BFF is the ugliest doll ever and after she suffers an accident, MAY sets out to establish a new friend til the end.
She meets a cool guy that she manages to run away with her bizarre actions but that doesn't phase her one bit- it motivates her. Her methods are bold and shocking for such a frail (like) miss. You can't help but feel for her because the movie has a way of keeping you grounded with the character all the way through. I absolutely wanted her to succeed. LOL.
Not taking away from this girl's sick ways one bit, this movie is a MUST WATCH because I don't think it can be done any better than this."
